History
Students may take a variety of courses offered by the History Department. For the student who enrolls in history classes for the first time, placement is made according to college entrance examination scores. Students may take history courses if they place at college level reading and writing
HIST 1301 History of the United States Part I and HIST 1302 History of the United States Part II are designed to satisfy the legislative requirement of six semester hours of U.S. history and to fulfill six hours of the core curriculum required for the Associate of Arts (AA) and the Associate of Sciences, (AS) Degrees, and Associates of Arts in Teaching (AAT).
HIST 2301 History of Texas may be taken to satisfy three hours of the legislative requirement of six hours of U.S. history.
HIST 2321 World Civilization to the 15th Century and HIST 2322 World Civilization from the 15th Century fulfill core curriculum requirements for Language, Philosophy, and Culture for all Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching and many Associate of Applied Science Degree.
San Antonio College offers an Associate of Arts Degree with a Concentration in History in which students can complete the core curriculum plus take additional classes in World History, Texas History, Economics, Geography, and Foreign Language to satisfy requirements for Bachelor in Arts in History at local and state universities. Students majoring in history should work with the faculty of the history program to determine the requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer.
The History Department will accept up to six hours credit in U.S. history and World history for those students making satisfactory scores on the Advanced Placement (AP) or College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Students should provide the San Antonio Testing Center in the Fletcher Administration Center 112 with their test scores on these exams in order to complete this option.
Political Science
The Political Science Department offers courses that comply with the legislative requirement regarding Federal and Texas government including the study of the U.S. Constitutions. Both GOVT 2305: Federal Government and GOVT 2306: Texas Government are offered via in-person and the Internet. .The sequence to complete the Core Requirements at San Antonio College is GOVT 2305: Federal Government and GOVT 2306: Texas Government.

The Economics Program offers courses designed for economics and business majors as well as for students interested in other fields of study who wish to learn about economics while satisfying their degree requirements.
Econ 1301 (Introduction to Economics) is a non-technical one semester introduction to the field of economics aimed particularly at non-business or economics majors. While future majors may begin their study of economics with Econ 1301 if they wish, it is not a pre-requisite for subsequent courses and does not count directly for economics or business major requirements; most future majors will choose to start directly with 2300-level principles courses.
Econ 2301 (Principles of Macroeconomics) studies business cycles, economic growth, banking and the money supply, and government policies related to unemployment, inflation, and other economy-wide issues.
Econ 2302 (Principles of Microeconomics) focuses on market dynamics and the decision-making of firms and consumers.
A fourth course, Econ 2311 (Economic Geography and Global Issues) is cross-listed as Geography 2312 and may be offered by geography instructors. This course examines the history and theory of international trade and global economic development.
The Program offers Econ 1301, 2301 and 2302 in online formats as well as in regular classroom format.
While there is no Associate of Arts in Economics degree offered at SAC, transfer plans linking SAC and various four-year institutions do exist for economics majors. Students interested in majoring in economics are warmly urged to consult with the program coordinator about their major plans, course choices, and any other questions or concerns they may have. Students should also check their course planning with the College’s Department of Counseling and Student Development.
