The Fire Science with an Emphasis in Homeland Security program reflects the assessed needs of the community for careers in fire service and the need for trained professionals in disaster preparedness. The curricula are designed to prepare students for initial career preparation, career development, and for foundations leading to university transfer credit. Fire science degrees and certificates are part of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certification process. The need for disaster preparedness has been magnified by the added threat of a terrorist attack using weapons of mass destruction.
