This Level I Certificate is designed for individuals who are working towards an Associate of Applied Science degree or for students wanting to complete the requirements to be awarded counselor intern status by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).  Upon successful completion of this certificate, the individual will have met the requirements for “counselor intern” status as directed by DSHS. Completion of all post-certificate requirements mandated by DSHS can lead to becoming a licensed chemical dependency counselor.  Students may also obtain an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Addiction Counseling.

The award of the chemical dependency counselor license requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree as directed by DSHS.
