|
Return to: Degrees & Certificates - Alphabetical The Enhanced Certificate in Specialized Interpreting engages students who want to increase their knowledge of specialized interpreting genres and transliteration skills. The first course SLNG 2311-Interpreting in Specialized Settings focuses on interpreting/transliterating for special populations (e.g., deaf/blind, high visual, oral deaf) in a variety of settings (e.g., religious, artistic, medical, legal, mental health). Activities are designed to reinforce basic theories and techniques related to working with special populations in various settings. The second course SLNG 2336 - Interpreting IV will provide further development of interpreting/transliterating skills. The emphasis is placed on achieving the nuances of interpretation in terms of lexical choices, speaker’s goal, register, and affect. This course is designed to help prepare students for advanced certification at the state and national levels. Either of these courses may be taken as part of the enhanced certificate, a directed elective, or simply for personal and professional enrichment. Certified interpreters may use these courses to satisfy continuing education requirements.
