Criminal Justice - Concentrations in Pre-Law, Corrections and Forensics, A.A.S. ♦

This Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice – Concentrations in Pre-Law, Corrections, and Forensics is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment or transfer opportunities in the justice system. Students will gain a broad foundation in criminal justice principles while choosing a concentration aligned with their career interests:

  • Pre-Law Studies for students intending to transfer to four-year institutions or pursue legal careers.
  • Correctional Science for students pursuing careers in adult corrections, rehabilitation, or probation/parole services.
  • Forensic Science for students interested in investigative and crime scene roles.

The degree includes general education coursework, criminal justice core classes, and a supervised practicum or cooperative education experience specific to the selected concentration.

Total Credit Hours Required: 60


Additional Information


Students with prior, documented experience in corrections, legal studies, or forensic science may qualify for up to 21 hours of Advanced Standing credit toward this degree. This credit applies to concentration-specific coursework in the Pre-Law, Correctional Science, or Forensic Science tracks and recognizes relevant work experience, training, and professional licensure.

To be eligible for prior learning experience, students must complete at least 6 credit hours of CRIJ coursework at San Antonio College, specifically:

  • CRIJ 1313 - Juvenile Justice System
  • CRIJ 1307 - Crime in America

Upon successful completion of these courses and submission of proper documentation, students may receive credit for designated concentration courses. This pathway allows eligible students to move forward with “21 Down, 39 to Go” on their way to completing the A.A.S. in Criminal Justice - Concentrations in Pre-Law, Corrections, and Forensics.
