The Journalism Field of Study combines theoretical understanding of the role of journalism in a free society and extensive hands-on training to prepare students for success in rapidly changing fields in mass media. Coursework and student media allow students to gain experience and build portfolios. The Field of Study in journalism provides the foundation for further study for careers in newspaper, radio, television, magazines, digital media, photojournalism, documentary filmmaking, public relations, advertising and photography. Journalism skills also prepare students for success in many additional fields, such as law, business, entertainment and public policy. Students should select Option 1 for digital, electronic and print journalism and photojournalism, Option 2 for public relations and advertising, and Option 3 for photography.
