Emergency Management Administration and Homeland Security, A.A.S. ♦


All municipalities, public service organizations, and large industries must have a disaster plan. These plans are developed and coordinated by an emergency manager. The need for disaster preparedness has been magnified by the added threat of a terrorist attack using weapons of mass destruction. San Antonio College is the first college in Texas to offer an AAS Degree in Emergency Management.

The Fire Science / Fire Fighting with an Emphasis in Homeland Security program reflects the assessed needs of the community for careers in the fire service and the need for trained professionals in disaster preparedness. The need for disaster preparedness has been magnified by the added threat of a terrorist attack using weapons of mass destruction. The curricula are designed to prepare students for initial career preparation, career development, and for foundations leading to university transfer credit. The curricula of the Fire Science / Fire Fighting with an Emphasis in Homeland Security Program meets or exceeds the standards established by the National Fire Academy-Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) committee.
