A milestone course is a course that is critical for success in this program as determined by the Faculty of the Alamo Colleges District.

Additional Program Information


All potential students must meet with the Human Services Program Coodinator or designee. This Level I Certificate is designed for individuals who are working towards an Associate of Applied Science degree or for students wanting to complete the requirements to be awarded counselor intern status by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).  Upon successful completion of this certificate, the individual will have met the requirements for "counselor intern" status as directed by DSHS. Completion of all post-certificate requirements mandated by DSHS can lead to becoming a licensed chemical dependency counselor.  Students may also obtain an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Addiction Counseling.

The award of the chemical dependency counselor license requires a minimum of an Associate's Degree as directed by DSHS.

Students enrolling in either academic or continuing education programs are required to satisfy the basic skills prerequisites, and be college level eligible in English, Math, and Reading before enrolling in any of the certificate courses.

The Human Services Program/Coordinator is approved to offer continuing education credit for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) & Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure renewal.  For further information, please contact the Human Services Program Coordinator.
