CJLE 1524 - Basic Peace Officer IV Prerequisites: Must be completed in sequence with Basic Peace Officer I, II, and III to constitute the TCLEOSE-approved basic peace officer academy. Department approval must be obtained prior to starting the course
Writing Basic Skills Prerequisite: ENGL 0300 Reading Basic Skills Prerequisite: READ 0302 Math Basic Skills Prerequisite: MATH 0302 This course finishes the basic preparation for a new peace officer. It will cover laws directly related to police fieldwork. Topics include the Texas Transportation Code, intoxicated driver, Texas Penal Code, elements of crimes, Texas Family Code, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, and civil liability. The student will be required to demonstrate and practice the skills of a police officer including patrol, driving, traffic stop, use of force, mechanics of arrest, firearm safety, and emergency medical care. Also included is the study of the techniques and procedures used by police officers on patrol; controlled substance identification; handling abnormal persons; traffic collision investigation; note taking and report writing; vehicle operation; traffic direction; crowd control; and jail operations. This course, when taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, II, and III, will satisfy the TCLEOSE-approved basic peace officer academy.
