The Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department at San Antonio College prepares students for work in Information Technology (IT) and/or transfer to specific university programs. Courses offered are from the State of Texas Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM).  WECM is an inventory of current workforce education courses available for use by public Texas two-year community colleges which ensures the relevancy and transferability of courses between these community colleges.

The IT courses in the CIS department develop skills that are in demand by employers in both the public and private sectors.  Graduates will be able to work in computer occupations such as these:

Computer Programming, Database Specialist, Network Administration, Computer Support/Help Desk, and Information Security and Assurance.

All programs and courses are developed and implemented in coordination with the CIS Advisory Committee which is comprised of computer professionals from the San Antonio metropolitan area. The entire curriculum reflects local community requirements. Graduates are able to pursue bachelor degrees at area colleges. Contact a CIS faculty advisor regarding transferability of courses to four-year institutions.

Instructional techniques which emphasize hands-on activities with computer hardware, software, and systems are designed to give students an understanding of their professional responsibilities and necessary occupational skills. The central purpose of all programs is to develop occupational competency.

All students enrolled in Internet courses must contact the professor prior to the first day of class.

The Continuing Education (CE) Training Network Division frequently schedules non-credit, short-term courses related to computer information systems.  Some CIS courses may be cross listed and taken as CE courses.  For further information, please contact the Continuing Education Training Network.
